Revolutionary War Powder Horn

Given to David Needham by Abner Needham

Powder Horn

The powder horn shown above was given to David Needham by his uncle Abner Needham.  The horn was apparently carved in April 1776, as indicated by the inscription, after Abner had marched to Cambridge in April 1775, as a member of the local company of Minutemen.  It is not known when Abner gave the horn to his nephew, David.  However, it is possibly he gave the horn after returning from Ft. Ticonderoga in July of 1777, and before David left to Ft. Ticonderoga and Saratoga in August of 1777.

The horn a has since been handed down in the Needham family for six generations.
